COURSE INSTRUCTORS
Asia Eaton, PhD, is a feminist social psychologist and Associate Professor of Psychology at Florida International University (FIU), where she directs the Power, Women, and Relationships (PWR) Lab. She is the Director of the new Psychology Ph.D. track in Applied Social and Cultural Psychology, as well as being a core faculty member in the Developmental Psychology and I-O Psychology tracks. She supervises Ph.D. students in all programs.
Asia is currently on the editorial boards of Personality and Social Psychology Review, Social Issues and Policy Review, and Journal of Business and Psychology. She has received a number of national awards, including SPW’s Strickland-Daniel Mentoring Award (2022), the Emerging Leadership Award from the Committee for Women in Psychology (2019), SPSSI’s Outstanding Teaching and Mentoring Award (2019), and SPSSI’s Michele Alexander Early Career Award (2016). At FIU, she has won faculty awards for advising and mentorship, engagement, research, and teaching. She is also an APA Fellow in Divisions 9 (SPSSI) and 35 (SPW).
Dionne Stephens, PhD, is a social justice focused health inequities researcher who developed this course over a decade ago. An Professor of Psychology, she holds affiliated faculty member status with the Center for Critical Qualitative Health Research, FIU Latin American & Caribbean Studies Program, and FIU Center for Women and Gender Studies. Dionne has been faculty advisor to over a dozen doctoral students, and created several student support groups, including the FIU Black Graduate Women's Association. She has conducted professional development workshops for scholars across the academic pipeline for numerous organizations, including the National Institutes for Health GHES Orientation, American Psychological Association (APA) Institute for Feminist Academics, and the APA Research2Share program. For her work, Dionne has won numerous national mentoring and teaching awards including the APA Foremother's Excellence in Mentorship, APA Division 5 Distinguished Contributions to Teaching & Mentoring in Qualitative Inquiry Award, National Institute for Teaching & Mentoring Faculty Mentor of the Year, Psi Chi Faculty Mentoring Award, and FIU Faculty Senate Excellence in Advising & Mentorship among others.
