In this course students students will be responsible for presenting the assigned readings and leading class discussion during two class periods in collaboration with Dr. Stephens. This assignment is worth 30 points. It is important to prepare for this assignment not only by presenting the course readings, but also taking time to understand the applicability of the article content to the broader course goals, and identify engaging ways to present this information.

SEMINAR CONTENT
Seminar Description & Purpose
The broad objective of this course is to interrogate different aspects of cross-cultural identity and cultural humility frameworks through the research and practitioner proceseses. Through an examination of the systematic ways in which culture informs our own and others' life experiences we will strive to engage in personal self-reflection, hands-on experience, and to understand the connections to larger social structures in our work within South Florida. Specifically, the goals of this course are: 1) to describe, learn, and see common and important patterned social and cultural differences, 2) to provide a space for students to reflect on their own personal experience with cultural difference and similarities, and 3) to encourage students to engage with different cultures via meaningful cross-cultural activities and assignments.
Learning Objectives
Upon completing the seminar, students will be able to:

ASSIGNMENTS
The course assignments contain multiple components that build toward completing a Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) project relevant to the communities they will collaborate with during their graduate research journeys. The assignments follow the course content structure and ensure that students are gaining practical experiences along with the theoretical learning.

Cultural Awareness: Diversity Statement (15 points)
Students will prepare a Diversity Statement that focuses on integrating foundational elements of intersectionality, equity and inclusivity across all phases of research processes.
Cultural Knowledge: Reading Facilitation (15 points)
Students will prepare discussion questions or reading responses that will guide our classroom. In this large-group discussion format, students will be expected to call on one another and refine each others comments using the required readings' content.
Cultural Knowledge: Research Paper (30 points)
Students will prepare a Research Paper that focuses on integrating foundational elements of intersectionality, equity and inclusivity across all phases of research processes.
Cultural Engagement: Community Visit (10 points)
Via reflective papers, students will share their experience engaging in a Community Visits across Miami. They will be attending events or visiting everyday spaces that are part of this diverse urban center and discussing how these activities impact their positionalities as researchers and understandings of their own work.
Transformative Skills: Infographic (10 points)
To exemplify students knowledge of the communities they work with, they must develop an infographic related to their larger research agenda. This should be a resource that researchers and organizations working with populations in Miami can easily utilize to provide quick information about your area of expertise.
Final Presentation (20 points)
The final presentation will be an opportunity for students to share their course work journey with colleagues in a systematic way. This presentation will include the presentation of key assignment content using a provided template.
Participation & Attendance (10 points)
Each student is expected to come to class, read all assigned readings, and prepare at least one question about the assigned content to discuss with the class. Students abilities in these areas are assessed through their attendance and participation.
